Blink 182 Review by Puto
This funny pop punk band was formed by Mark Hoppus (bass/vocals), Tom Delonge (guitar/vocals), and Scott Raynor (Drums). The band was originally called Blink but an Irish techno group already had that name and threatened to sue them. So they came up with 182, it’s rumors that it’s name came from various sex positions that they performed, how many cus words were in the God father, and for the truth it was just a random number and they stuck to it cause it sounded good. In 1995 they released their first album Cheshire cat with their fast punk sound and true feel of lyrics it wasn’t hard for Blink 182 listeners become full blown fans. Dude ranch came in 1997 and was the first album that got the most attention on commercials. In this year Scott left the band to finish college, but also rumors have it he always got drunk and never went to the shows so he just left because that, lets see how the story goes when you hear the song man over board lyrics you’ll catch my drift, but anyway. Scott left and was Travis Barker took his place as drummer. Travis was in the band Aquabats, it wasn’t hard for the band to get along with Travis they already knew him from touring, and Travis knew most of the songs. Blink 182 while touring they were in at the surf/skate/punk rock scene and toured at the Vans Warped Tour. The end of 98 came they stopped touring for dude ranch and worked on their next album Enema Of The State. This gave the band more attention from a new wave of fans, and commercial success. The name enema of the state came from Mark as he says ‘’ In order to contain good health, your body must be able to eliminate food and bodily waste. Your colon, together with your lungs, skin, and kidneys are designed to accomplish this essential task by elimination of toxins in the intestines, blood, and lymph systems.’’ Enough said from Mark Hoppus. Enema of the state sold over 4 million copies. Blink 182 played on the limited edition The Mark, Tom, and Travis show (the enema strikes back) their live versions of the played songs were on the radio with their sense of humor and their new song ‘’man overboard’’. In spring 2001 the new album ‘’Take Off Your Pants And Jacket’’ was another success not as much as the legendary Enema Of The State, but this album grew as of maturity and more punk rock sounds such as the anthem part 2. Then 2003 came with Blink 182 self-titled album that was released on Geffen records. The song feeling this hit the charts with sex and the feeling of how teens are, but the single I miss you rocketed up the charts of 2005. In February 2005 the ranging and legendary Blink 182 announced that they would be on ‘’indefinite hiatus’’ it was for spending time with the bands growing family. The band issued their greatest hits that November. The band members worked on other projects Travis worked with Tom on a previous project Box Car Racer, Travis played with the Transplants with rancid's Tim Armstrong, and Barker continued with his clothing company Famous Stars and Stripes. And MTV spotted the Barker family and made the hit TV shows Meet The Barkers. Hoppus carried on with his Atticus ware and produced motion city soundtrack’s Commit This To Memory. Mark worked with Travis on their new band Plus 44.Tom continued with his clothing company Macbeth and is now in progress with his new band Angles And Airwaves.Blink 182 Review by Florea
blink-182 is a Southern California punk band that was formed in 1992 by Tom Delonge, Mark Hoppus and Scott Raynor in San Diego. Travis Barker replaced Raynor on drums in 1998.
Before too much time had passed they became affiliated with local clubs that played for all ages. Their music spread and the ears of the local skate scene seemed to enjoy it especially. As with many bands, their music was heard by a generous band called The Vandals. This led to a deal with Grilled Cheese Music. They were asked to produce a demo tape. The concoctions that resulted were Flyswatter and Buddha. Sensing the next Green Day like band, they were signed. In 1994, Cheshire Cat was released into the world with the name "BLINK" on the front. This produced a new problem. Apparently an Irish techno band named Blink was willing to sue. So they added a random number, 182. Cheshire Cat was reissued with the new 182 and Blink started touring to promote their new album.
They were now asked to do a third album. They crapped out Enema of the State in June of 1999, their most successful album to date. The album was largely successful, propelling the band to pop punk fame and gaining a significant amount of airtime on MTV and Total Request Live (TRL). This was largely due to the commercial success of the songs "What's My Age Again?", "Adam's Song" and "All the Small Things". Enema of the State sold 7.7 million copies worldwide, which made it their bestselling album to that point. The sound on the album was rooted in the same genre as earlier punk-rock bands such as NOFX, Green Day and The Offspring, but it was digitally mixed and enhanced.
A little more than one year later, on November 7th 2000, blink-182 released a live album called The Mark, Tom, and Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back). The show was recorded in the Universal Amphitheatre one year earlier, and contained all their hit singles except Josie and M+M's. The album also had a bonus for the fans with the song Man Overboard.
Between the release of Enema Of The State and The Mark, Tom, And Travis Show, blink won their first MTV award. They were awarded as the best group.
2001 saw blink-182 continuing their commercial success, recording Take off Your Pants and Jacket, which followed the same basic formula of "Enema of the State". When the album was first released, there were several versions with different bonus tracks. These were titled "Take off," "Pants," and "Jacket," each of which were signified by a different sticker on the CD. Each version had two different bonus tracks. The tracks were "Fuck a Dog", "Mothers Day" and "When You Fucked Grandpa", all considered to be joke songs. The more serious numbers were "Time to Break Up", "Don't Tell Me That It's Over" and "What Went Wrong".
In the Summer of 2002, blink-182 and Green Day co-headlined the "Pop-Punk Disaster" tour.
In January of 2003, blink were starting on a new and unknown road
that they had never went down before. They rented a house in San Diego
to write, demo and record a new full lenght album. Blink were in this
house for the majority of 2003. They released their fifth studio album
blink-182 on November 18, 2003. Described as "a self-meditation
on romantic decay", the album featured the hit singles "Feeling
This", "I Miss You", "Down", and the 1980s-influenced
"Always". Travis Barker has confirmed that the band left the
album untitled (rather than self-titled) to represent a new blink-182.
It showcased a style of music deeper than anything blink-182 had done
previously, but still managed to receive significant airplay on radio
stations and Fuse.
