  • NOFX Review by Puto

NOFX formed in Berkeley California in 1983 then moved to Los angelus shortly afterward. NOFX weren’t interested of major record labels and commercials because the effect of the career. The band consisted of three players. Fat Mike (Mike Burkett, bass/vocalist), Eric Melvin (guitar), and Eric Sandid A.K.A Eric Shun (drums).

Sandin quit the band in 1985 and Scott Sellers took his place. In that same year the band recorded two 7 Eps for the Mystique label NOF-X. Scott Sellers quit the band after the EP came and was replaced with Scott Aldahl for only two weeks, Then Sadlin rejoined the group along with vocalist Dave Allen in 1996 but it was cut short when he got into a fatal car accident and passed away. Dave Casillas joined in as second guitarists later in that year. By that time NOFX touring schedule was far ranging and rigorous.

The new EP was released it was called ‘’P.M.R.C Can Suck On This’’ was released on Fat Mikes label called Fat Wreck Chords in 1987. Dave Casillas left the group in 1989 and was replaced by Steve Kidwiller. NOFX full-length album ‘’S&M Airlines’’ came out on the legendary punk label Epitaph, and they remained there ever since. Such as ‘’I Heard They Suck Live’’ and other Eps on Fat Wreck Records, they grew in other punk revival artists. The band appeared in ‘90 ribbed and 91’ Liberal Animation (originally recorded in 88’) Kidwiller left the band in ‘91 and Aaron Abeyta took his place as permanent second guitarist and trumpeter and got the nick name of El Hefe.

Now dragged into the spotlight of mainstream in the mid ‘90’s by label mates Bad Religion and The Offspring. In ’92 they came out with the album ‘’White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean’’ came out and were closer to anti-commercial. When White Trashes single ‘’Please Play This Song On The Radio’’ which brought un-alert radio with tight melody but ends with words of obcenity. The El Hefe kept rising up in ‘94’s punk in drublic, which was the bands best album and the album hit gold. Fat Wreck Chords and Epitaph were still releasing songs through out the ‘90s, like ‘96’s grungier less up tempo ‘’Heavy Petting Zoo’’, ‘97’s ‘’So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes’’ and 2000’s ‘’Pump Up The Valuum’’ and ‘’Bottles To The Ground’’. In 2002 Nofx went through countless tapes recoding for their new album, which went up to 47.46.45, and all the songs weren’t good enough for the album. The song ‘’pimps and Hookers’’ was the only song that was recorded in one day.

Later in 2002 BYO records came out with a split record of NOFX and Rancid it was BYO Split series vol.3 containing six songs that Rancid covered for NOFX and NOFX did the same. The Surfer EP showcased sloppy cuts in spring 2003 which were the first 500 copies in colored vinyl
