Weezer Review by Puto

Weezer was founded in 1992 in Los Angeles. This rock group gave the most best essential rock taste when it comes to solos on guitar, drums, bass, and piano which ever instrument you can’t help to love but here the melodic tunes. The band originally consisted of Rivers Cuomo (Guitar vocals), Jason Crooper (guitar, vocals), Matt Sharp (bass, volcals) and Pat Wilson (drums). They played in local clubs in L.A with not much success in 16 months until Geffen Records signed them. They moved to New York in Electric Lady studios under Ric Ocasek from cars fame. Jason then left the band during recording of Weezer’s first album ‘’Weezer’’ (Blue Album), because he took care of his pregnant wife. Then Brian Bell took his place that was the former basses of the band Carnival Art.

The Blue Album was released on May 10, 1994. The singles featured were Buddy Holly, Undone (The sweater song), and Say it aint so. Buddy Holly got a lot of MTV award success and with that, Weezer toured around the U.S and around the world eventually the album went double platinum. After this the band went back in and to a break. Rivers went to school at Harvard, Brian went with his other band The Space Twins, Matt and Pat were making their side project band The Rentals. The beginning of winter, in 1995 and the summer of 1996, Weezer entered the studio and produced their second album ‘’ Pinkerton’’. The album was released on September 26, 1996 with the ultimate songs of EL Scorcho, and The Good Life. With the Pinkerton songs it was heavier and the songs had more meaning and matured more. After the Pinkerton album Matt left the band as bassist under good terms, to continue his band The Rentals, and Mikey Welsh of Boston took his place and formally part of Juliana Hatfield’s band. During the year of 1998 Rivers and Mikey did shows together under the name of ‘’The Rivers Cuomo Band’’ then in that spring Rivers and Mikey joined Brian and Pat for on/off rehearsals sessions for a couple of years. River devoted some on his time on ‘‘Homie’’, which released a song, Brian released some records with his band Space Twins, and Pat and Mikey were in Special Goodness.

Now in the spring of 2000 after having side projects done and over with, Weezer had more frequent rehearsals and booked dates with the Warped Tour and in a nationwide club later on in that year. Their tickets sold out rapidly and the fans were delighted, and Weezer was back with more material. With the new material they wrote a Christmas song EP for fans and radio stations for the new year, Weezer now back in the studio they now were making their third album Weezer “”The Green Album’’ again with producer Ric Ocasek. ‘’The Green Album’’ now released on May of 2001. First fan fave single to be released with a funny video was ‘’Hash Pipe’’ with director Marcos Siega. The video shoot for ‘’Island in the sun’’ came Mikey had missed a plane and several days had passed and Mikey was not to be found a search went on and he didn’t want to continue the band so now his place would be taken by Scoot Shriner. Weezer fourth album came out on April 4, 2002. Its name was ‘’Maladroit’’.

With Scott now involved in the band making them whole once more and their single ‘’Keep Fishin’’ hit all the up to the charts and hit gold Weezer was unstoppable. In September Weezer released an EP ‘’The Lion and The Witch’’ in Japan with six live recorded songs that were at a live club in Japan. Weezer had 25,000 copies till this day people are looking for. On November 2005 Weezer came back with a new album ‘’Make believe’’ this album released the new single ‘’Beverly Hills’’ in the video the guys from the band played at the Play Boy Mansion with special cameo by Hugh Hefner. ‘’Beverly Hills’’ hit the charts with the following single ‘’We Are All On Drugs’’ during the time of Make Believe Weezer toured around with The Foo Fighters. Then finally came the other single ‘’Perfect Situation’’ with a Special Appearance by the Beautiful Elisha Cuthbert. In the video Cuomo was a rodie and the prequel to the band name with Elisha being the main star and singer was originally Weeze.

Then for the first time for a single and fourth single to ever com out for Weezer was ‘’This Is Such A Pity’’ during this time Rivers was going to Harvard finishing up school and now he graduated on June 8, 2006, and is now married to his wife Kyoko Cuomo on June 18,2006. Who knows what will happen to the band they say they’ll quit who knows, Weezer is a band that’s full of surprises.
